In between my weddings and over this next summer term I am working on an “Art Club” project with Mr Hall and some of the year 2 children at Forfield lane Infant School, Called “The Magic Garden”
We have been looking at images of The Cottingley Fairies, photographs taken by Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths in 1917, and also early photographs from the turn of the century.
Last week the children dressed up as fairies and photographed eachother. The next stage will be to make cut outs of the fairies then set them in a garden scene and re-photograph them. The children have had so much fun allready!
We will be looking at image manipulation techiques, and ways of giving our fairies a real setting in our “Magic Garden”.
Also we will be exploring the history of photography. We will be making “sun pictures” which are a kind of photogram inspired by the work of Man Ray, and also looking at photographing our natural surroundings, spring flowers and trees. All the work will then be collaborated together to make photomontages of the gardens including our fairy friends and sun pictures! inspired by the montages of David Hockney.
Im really looking forward to seeing the final pieces that the children produce.
