Importance of a wedding albums

Although my wedding season doesn’t start until Spring this year, Ive been really busy designing Albums for my lovely couples, and photographing gorgeous babies!

Today I would like to talk about the importance of a wedding album. One of my favourite pastimes as a child was to indulge myself in looking through my parents album and boxes of old photographs. My parents were married in London, in the swinging sixties 1962 to be exact and the photos are full of my grandparents and aunts and uncles all looking very glamourous in the fashions of the early sixties and of course my parents captured in beautiful black and white images sitting along side some colour imagery which was all fairly new then.  It was a wonderful feeling and still is to look at old photographs, you wonder about the people in them, what was happening at the time, how their life was, so many images can tell an amazing story. So many years later I think about my own children and so much imagery from their childhood is stored on drives, by the time they want to show their own children the drives would have become obsolete.

Having been a photographer for over 25 years I have grown up taking images on film and having a negative which kept in the right conditions can be preserved forever. I can’t say that about images kept on hardrives, but a professional album will last as archival inks and papers are used to preserve quality.

Thats why I feel when you buy a wedding album – you are buying the experience that your children, grandchildren (and even ancestors!) will have with your memories. They will turn the pages and debate who was who, they will laugh at the fashions and marvel at how much they looked like you. Some images may even bring a tear to their eyes, a wedding album is a family heirloom a beautiful book that should be handed on down from one generation to the next, its a historical record of who our family and friends were.  The images that are stored on computers may just disappear in time as technology changes. Wedding albums can be taken out at anytime, shared around family and friends, when your children marry the first thing they want to see is your wedding album, its a beautiful way to keep our memories.

I have shown you a few different pages from various weddings of mine in this blog post,  if you are thinking about getting married and can’t decide if you need an album Im advising you to think about it carefully please. Please come over and have a look at the albums that I offer from some of the best album makers in the world, such as Queensberry and Graphistudio.
